They are powerful leaders in their community and an event hosting them could intersect many themes such as human rights, migration out of Central America, environmental protection and activism.

Four Water Defenders are coming to the United States to receive the Letelier- Moffitt Human Rights Award from the Institute on Policy Studies in Washington, DC.  They are representing the Comite Municipal en defensa de los bienes comunes y naturales del Municipio de Tocoa in Honduras (Municipal Committee in defense of the common and natural assets of the Municipality of Tocoa in Honduras).  They have been part of the organizing with the Guapinol Community fighting a mining project in the Bajo Aguan.
