You are cordially invited to attend the opening of the first women’s mosque in  Northern California, and the 2nd in the United States of America.  Qal’bu Maryam was the dream of Rabi’a Keeble, a graduate of Starr King School of the Ministry and GTU, since 2012. She felt inspired by such figures as Malala Yousefzai, the Pakistani school girl who survived a life threatening attack just because she wanted an education which the Taliban felt should be reserved for men alone. Now she is a Nobel Peace Prize Winner, and lecturer.  Rabi’a was inspired by Islamic scholars such as Dr. Amina Wadud, who blazed the trail in the study of sharia law and gender, and who leveled the playing field between men and women in the worship space, by calling the adhan in 2005.  California women lead.
Please join us in worship and celebration Friday, April 14th, 2017, at 12:30pm at Starr King School for the Ministry on the Graduate Theological Union Campus in Berkeley.  Jumu’ah prayer will be conducted by women entirely.
Following the service there will be a small reception.
Please join us as you are able.
