Dear Interfaith Council Congregation Clergy,
Happy New Year!  My name is Brianna Shahvar and I am a Jewish parent with two young children here in Pleasant Hill.  Along with Liora Brosbe from the Jewish Federation, Congregation B’nai Shalom in Walnut Creek and the Interfaith Council of Contra Costa County, I am writing to ask you to share the attached invitation for an interfaith playdate with your congregation members who have young children.  The playdate will take place on Sunday, January 27th from 3:30-5:00 pm at B’nai Shalom.  Our facebook invitation page can be found here:  https://www.facebook.com/events/1964251273688395/  And, our pdf poster is attached to this email.
This event was inspired by the memorial service held by the Interfaith Council at B’nai Shalom following the murders at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh.  I attended the service and listened to so many of our local clergy speak about the need to build connections across our interfaith community.  I thought this playdate was one way that parents with young children could be involved in this effort and it’s an opportunity to help our children develop an understanding of friendship and acceptance.  We are hopeful that this can become a regular monthly program.  I am so appreciative of the enthusiastic partnership from the Jewish Federation, B’nai Shalom and the Interfaith Council in making this idea happen.
The playdate will be centered around the theme of friendship and will involve a story time and opportunity for parents to meet each other.  We invite clergy to attend as well.  We are currently looking for a volunteer to lead a music time with the children.  Please contact me if you can help in this effort.
Thank you for your time and for sharing this invitation with your families!  Feel free to contact me with any questions.
In Community,
Brianna Shahvar
